Our Story.

"Every movement begins with a single act of hope. This is ours."

A timeline

From a quiet conviction to a growing movement.

  1. 2022

    The Beginning

YACT was birthed from the mantra of our Catholic secondary school, 'Servictum Dei et Aliorum' . What began as conversations in our dorm rooms in Abuja grew, within months, into a registered movement with a single conviction: your action creates tomorrow.

"We didn't have a budget. We had a belief — and a list of names of children who deserved more."

    Our First Initiative

Our first outreach took us to a rural primary school in Abuja. We were tasked with choosing what we wanted to do for our internship term and we decided to volunteer as teachers. It was our time spent there overcoming language barriers and experiencing the realities of public education first hand that solidified our vision for the charity.

    Growing Our Community

Word travelled. Volunteers signed up from all over, eager to become part of a mission that struck so close to home. Friends and classmates donated textbooks. Other donors sent funds from all over, referring artisans and funds towards the finishing of our pilot project. A grassroots project quietly became a community.

    First Scholarships Awarded

We raised our first $10,000 and put it to work — funding tuition, uniforms, and learning materials for schoolchildren at the LEA Primary school where we volunteered. For many of these students and their parents, it was the first time school had ever felt within reach.

"Before YACT, I wasn't sure I'd finish school. Now I want to be a doctor."

    Books, Food & Community Outreach

Education doesn't happen in isolation. Alongside our scholarships, we launched book drives, food distributions, and mentorship circles — meeting children where they are and supporting the families who raise them.

    Recognised by Abuja State

Our flagship library project earned formal recognition from the Abuja state government — an unusual honour for a youth-led organisation. The award mattered less than what it represented: a partnership with the communities we serve.

Today

Where we are now.

YACT now runs an active scholarship fund, a recognised community library, and ongoing book and food drives across rural Abuja. We work alongside teachers, parents, and local elders to make sure the support we provide outlasts our visits.

Every term, more children are walking into classrooms because of decisions made by people who have never met them — donors, volunteers, and partners who chose to act.

Looking ahead

The story is still being written.

Our goal for 2026 is to support more scholars, expand access to educational resources, and reach new communities. The next chapter of YACT will be written by everyone who chooses to be part of the journey.
